5 Human Factors in the Age of AI

While companies are forced to race for the economic promises of new technology, how do we ensure the human factor doesn’t get left behind? How do we lead with courage in this new world?

On this, I was interviewed by Raiffeisen Bank on my train ride from Zurich to Geneva.

Here are the 5 key insights from the interview:

Managing Uncertainty is Crucial
→ Digital success relies on 1) engaging employees for feedback early before implementing solutions, 2) addressing fears with empathy, and 3) fostering a culture that welcomes change.
→ Change doesn’t come from buying new technologies, but from leaders who make people ready and eager to use them.

Cognitive Biases in Digitalization
→ During key decisions, appoint someone to challenge assumptions and bring in fresh perspectives.
→ Review past projects to spot where overconfidence or blind spots caused setbacks, and adjust moving forward.

Three Hidden Reasons Why Digitalization Fails
→ Build a time estimate for your next transformation effort and then double it. Most teams misjudge the effort required.
→ Break big projects into small, clear milestones (aim for two to four weeks each) and recognize progress as you go.
→  Pair every new tool with proper training so your team feels motivated, clear, and ready for ownership.

Tips for Better Communication
→ Shape your message for each group; leaders, peers, and partners each need tailored updates. The psychology of communication is key.
→ End each project meeting by asking, “What are we overlooking? What assumption could we be wrong about?”. Introducing this ritual will keep you on track.

 Have Fun Doing It
→ Change happens either way, let’s welcome it with a smile. Optimism becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

For leaders working at the intersection of people and technology, these steps will help master the digital transformation journey.
